The new Spray Delphinium 'Sunshine' is a desired variety not only due to its strong, tall, sturdy stems and big strong, true blue single florets but because its spray habitat and all the flowers open all on top, hence it is a perfect for bouquets.

  • Crop Time

    From planting to harvest 10-11 weeks.
    From prune to harvest 9-10 weeks.

  • Planting Density

    16-18 plants/sq-m.net or 2-2.25 plants/sq-ft.net

  • Pre-planting

    Soil:Well drained, loose soil with no clusters, at least 25 cm (10 in.) deep.
    pH: 5.5 to 6.5.
    Netting: 2 levels.

  • Pinch

    It is advisable to do the pinch of the main stem at 15 cm height by removing just the apex. The disbudding should be done for the following two weeks in order to stimulate basal sprouts.

  • Shoot Selection

    Best performance leaving 3 stems per plant.

  • Prunning

    Once the harvest has finished, the plants should be pruned leaving 1-2 cm of the stem over the soil.
    If no drip irrigation is available, do a higher pruning.
    An aspersion with a fungicide should be done to avoid infection.

  • Irrigation

    The soil should be over field capacity before planting and for the next week after planting. Start dripping with fertilizer since transplanting. At the end of the harvest, stop the irrigation and restart one week after the prune.

  • Fertilization

    A general fertilization formula could be the following:
    Nitrogen: 80-100 ppm
    Phosphorus: 40-50 ppm
    Potasium: 150-180 ppm
    Calcium: 120-130 ppm
    E.C: 1.5

  • Harvest

    The optimal harvest stage is when 2-3 flowers have their petals straight, when the petals start to separate. The maximum cut stage is when the inflorescence has 30% of open flowers.

  • PostHarvest treatment

    To prevent ethylene damage, place the flowers immediately after cutting in a solution with Chrysal AVB (2.0 cc/l) for at least 2 hours in a cool place, protected from the wind and sunlight. The p.H of the solution should be 4.0.
    Then change the flowers into a solution with Chrysal Professional 2 (6.0 cc/l) for 12 hours in a cold room.
