PLANTING DENSITY

4.5 plants/ m2

PRE-PLANTING

Soil: Well drained, loose soil with a level surface. At least 30 cm deep.

pH: The color is not affected by the soil’s pH.

Netting:  4 levels

SHADING

Use shade when there are very high temperatures or when the plants are in bloom.

PINCH

Pinch 4 weeks after planting leaving four pairs of leaves.

Once the stems starts to be induced, remove the flower.  Continue removing the flower at least for 6 months until the plant forms a well-developed crown with a diameter of at least 25-30 cms. Select the stems that will be allowed to rise leaving 7 or 8 stems of good sizing.

IRRIGATION

Maintain the soil at field capacity throughout the establishment and development of the crop. Under hydric stress conditions marginal leaf and flower necrosis may happen.

FERTILIZATION

Begin fertilization when transplant.  The fertilization formula can vary depending on the soil type and its feritly.

A general fertilization formulation can be:

N:160 ppm; P: 45 ppm; K:160 ppm

Ca: 80 ppm; Mg: 30 ppm; Fe: 2 ppm

Mn: 2 ppm; Zn: 0.5 ppm; Cu.0.2 ppm

B: 0.3 ppm; Mo: 0.05 ppm

It is recommended to cut fertilization in half when the color begins to appear on the flower.

HARVEST

Harvest when the flower is fully open. It must be harvested early in the morning.

POST HARVEST TREATMENT

Hydrate in a AVB solution (1cm3 /Lt water).  Then after the pH should be between 7 and 8.  Mix well and add AVB booster (1 cm3/Lt water).  Once mixed, the pH should be between 3.2 to 5.5.  Keep in the mix for 2 hours.  Then hydrate in Chrysal Professional 2 (5 cm3/Lt water).  Once mixed, the pH should be between 3.5 and 5.5.

PACKAGING & STORAGE

Hydrangeas must be stored and should travel hydrated.  It can never be stored, packed and travel dry.

PESTS & DISEASES

Aphids, slugs, white fly, mites, powdery mildew, Phythium, Rhizoctonia, Cercospora, Sclerotinia, rust and virus.
