Culture Tips

CROP TIME

From planting to harvest: 13 weeks

STEM HEIGHT

50-60 cm

PLANTING DENSITY

80 plants/m 2net or 3-4 plants/ft 2

PRE-PLANTING

Substrate: Plant in beds using burned husk. Replace substrate after every planting.

pH: 5.5 to 6.5

Netting:  2 levels

SHOOTING SELECTION

Due to its high sprouting, at week 5, remove lateral stems leaving only the main stem.  At week 7, repeat the process. by removing any laterals that have grown.

IRRIGATION

At planting or after 7 days, use drip irrigation applying a volume of 6-7 l/m2/day. If soil gets dry, use overhead irrigation for the first 3 weeks  to complement irrigation maintaining the substrate’s moisture homogeneous according to environmental and organoleptic conditions.

FERTILIZATON

A general fertilization formula can be:

N: 120 ppm

P: 40 ppm

K: 160 ppm

Ca: 120 ppm

Mg: 60 ppm

S: 50 ppm

Fe: 2 ppm

Mn: 2.5 ppm

Cu, Zn y B: 0.2 ppm.

Starting week 8-9, irrigation reinforcements can be made following:

K: 200 – 220 ppm

Ca: 200 ppm.

- C.E.: 1.0 a 1.4

HARVEST

Harvest when head becomes round with at least 8 cm in diameter.

Stems can be harvested 16 weeks after planting but the heads can be of a smaller diameter than if harvested 18 weeks after planting.

POST HARVEST TREATMENT

Measure the pH of the hidrating solution before applying to any of the post harvest products.  Use citric acid to elevate pH to 4.  Hidrate in STS (Floríssima 125 at a dosis of 5 cc/lt) for 2 hours.  Then hydrate in Chrysal Profesional 2 solution (dosis 6 cc/l) for 12 hours in a cold room.

PESTS & DISEASES
